FAQs

FAQs

We are a not-for-profit, non-government incorporated entity officially registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for Profits Commission (ACNC). The programs and services we provide, some of which are funded by Australian government departments, are the result of tenders and contracts awarded to our organisation. We otherwise rely on grants, donations and alternate streams of income to keep our organisation functioning at its true not-for-profit capacity.

We do not have any emergency accommodation available ourselves, however our Youth Housing and Reintegration Service (YHARS) can assist eligible young people with finding suitable accommodation once they become a client of the service.

Supporting our organisation can start with something as simple as spreading the word about what we do, or engaging with our content online or in-person at community events.

If you wish to play a more active role in providing support, we encourage you to consider Sponsorship or the option to Donate in support of our mission. This could be by way of formal, ongoing sponsorship of a program, initiative or service, or by hosting a fundraiser on behalf of our organisation.

Becoming a Volunteer is as equally rewarding as it is vital for the development of our youth and the community. We owe so many of our program’s successes to our dedicated volunteers, therefore we continually strive to grow our organisation by bringing people together who wish to assist us in delivering our mission.

Queensland Youth Services is committed to putting 100% of the funds donated to our organisation’s programs, services and initiatives into helping our young people. This means there are no administration fees deducted from any monetary donations made. Every donation in its entirety is put towards empowering our youth and helping them believe in their power to transform through our service delivery.

Yes, however, prior to making any donations, please Contact our team to discuss what you have available so that we can ensure it can be allocated appropriately.

Yes, find out about our current available positions on our Volunteer page.

Our head office is located in Townsville, with programs and services provided from this location targeted solely towards Townsville residents. Aftercare, a service provided via our Youth Housing and Reintegration Service (YHARS), offers coverage for North Queensland and Far North Queensland. Our secondary location, situated in Mt Isa, only provides programs and services to Mt Isa residents.

Our organisation provides a diverse range of youth support services with the overall goal of helping disadvantaged young people aged 12 through 25 achieve independence and stability in their lives. Our highly skilled and dedicated workforce strives to assist each young person in pursuit of their personal goals while ensuring they have the support they need to achieve successful outcomes.

We are able to assist young people in the following areas: homelessness, mental health, family and relationship management, employment, training, personal and professional development, young parenthood, access to driving lessons, resource provision and other areas as necessary. Where we are not able to assist directly, we work to connect our clients with appropriate services that can provide them with the support they need.

Specific age and eligibility requirements apply for each of our Programs.

We welcome all feedback from our clients and stakeholders alike. To let us know about your experiences, please complete a feedback form via our Contact Us page. Please note, all feedback will be treated with due care and confidentiality.

In 1978, we began as a drop-in centre called the Open Youth Project offering self-help, employment and other personal development services for disadvantaged youth. In 1993, the Management Committee at the time voted to become incorporated under the name Queensland Youth Services Incorporated, with a vision of assisting youth beyond Townsville. From this point on, our organisation has operated under this name delivering a variety of programs and services to various regions and clientele.

We are all about locals supporting locals towards better outcomes, therefore we seek to build relationships that both build up our youth and those in our community. Our partners, sponsors and supporters are diverse yet similar, as they have all come together to join the youth empowerment movement. From local businesses to government departments, learn about who we work with on our Partnerships page.

Yes, Queensland Youth Services offers a variety of membership classes for members of the public interested in playing an active role in organisational matters. To learn more about applying for membership, visit our Membership page.

We are an HDAA certified organisation, with our latest audit being conducted in October 2021 with no non-compliance issues.
